Egypt, Sinai & Cairo
Day 1: Travel to Egyptian Border
Drive south along the Dead Sea and continue to Eilat, the southern tip of Israel. Cross the Taba border and relax and overnight at a deluxe resort on the Red Sea.
Day 2: Sinai Peninsula
This morning we drive south to visit St. Catherine’s Monastery at the base of Mt. Sinai (Jebel Musa, Mt. of Moses). Explore the monastery which was established in the 3rd century and has housed some of the most significant writings in Christian history. Trace the route of the Exodus as we continue to Cairo. Explore some of the oases that dot the route. Dinner and overnight at our hotel near the Great Pyramids in Cairo.
Day 3: Giza, Memphis, & Saqqara
We begin our day with a visit to the Great Pyramids of Giza, one of the wonders of the ancient world and silent witnesses to centuries of history. Continue to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt and the city referred to in the Bible as Noph. See the remains of the massive Ramses statue and glimpse some of the other remains of ancient Memphis, still largely covered in the Saharan sands. Cross from the lush Nile Valley to the edges of the Sahara where we’ll visit Saqqara. See the ancient Step Pyramid, the oldest pyramid in Egypt. See also the area that is still yielding spectacular archaeological finds today. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Cairo.
Day 4: Cairo
Visit modern Cairo as we visit the Egyptian Museum, home of so many of Egypt’s greatest relics of the past including many of the finds from King Tuthankamen‘s tomb. Visit Old Cairo and the ancient citadel, Coptic churches, and the busy Khan al Khalili bazaar. Depending on our final flight schedule we may depart this evening for a flight to Europe. Overnight in Cairo or European city.
Day 5: Return to the USA
