Last One In’s a Rotten Egg – Shawnee Alliance Church, Shawnee, OH – 9:30a 2/17/20
John 5:1-9 is the story of Jesus healing a man at the Pools of Bethesda who had been sick for 32 years. The man was waiting for an angel to move the water so he could be the first one in and be healed. Jesus does not ask the man, “Do you want assistance getting into the pool?” Why? Because healing was not received by jumping into the pool. Healing was found in the Messiah, God’s Anointed One.
The Prodigal Son – Pandora Missionary Church, Pandora, OH, August 27, 2023
Luke 15:1-2, 11-32 – The Prodigal Son is likely the second best-known parable Jesus taught (the first is the Good Samaritan). Perhaps thousands of sermons have been preached on this passage from Luke’s Gospel. My approach is different from others. In this sermon, we answer the questions, “How did Jesus’ audience hear his story? How did a first-century, Palestinian, Jew understand his parable? How is this different from how we often grasp the story? What can we learn from their view?” This is a unique approach to a very familiar story.
