Wonders of Jordan and Petra
Day 1 – 1st & 2nd Temple Period Tombs, Rockefeller Museum
Visit the Tomb of the Kings, a first-century burial site. Tour the Rockefeller Museum’s magnificent collection of antiquities unearthed during the time of the British Mandate (1919-1948). At lunch, visit another site of First Temple Period tombs on Mt. Scopus. Cross the Allenby Bridge into Jordan.
Day 2 – Mt. Nebo, Madaba & Machaerus
View the “promised land” as Moses did from the summit of Mt. Nebo. Visit Machaerus, where John the Baptist was beheaded. View the oldest known map of Jerusalem when you visit Madaba, “the city of Mosaics.” Travel south to Machaerus, where John the Baptist was beheaded. Continue south to Petra for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 – Petra
Wander and wonder at the rose-red city of Petra, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and one of the new Seven Wonders of the word. As you walk through the winding Siq that protected ad hid the city, you will be journeying back in time. At the end of the journey are the Treasury Building (made famous by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), amphitheater, and other public facilities and private tombs carved directly in t the rock! In the distance, the traditional site of Aaron’s tomb can be seen. Travel to Amman for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 – Jerash, Jericho, & Bethany
This morning you will explore the ruins of Jerash, (Alexander the Great’s city of Geresa), one of the best-preserved ancient Roman cities in the world. Stroll through the oval piazza and wander along colonnaded streets etched by the wheels of ancient chariots. Stand in the grand theatre where an onstage whisper can be heard in the top row. Re-cross the Allenby Bridge and travel to Jericho for a late lunch and then visit the tomb of Lazarus in Bethany before traveling to the Bethlehem hotel.
The group has rooms to clean up and repack before transfer to Ben Gurion.
Day 5 – Arrive home
